Social Media Marketing is a process to gain traffic on your Blog or Website through various social media platforms.

We all know what exactly Social Media is; I don’t think I need to tell you what social media is & how big it is. It has spread faster over the past 10 years.

On an average, a normal individual spends at least 45 minutes to an hour on social media. However, it may be more than that. Moreover according to a survey by 2020 the use of social media will increase by 18%- 21%.

We are addicted to mobile phones and social media platforms that our obsession is now known as Nomophobia. It’s the fear of not being near your mobile phone.

Being a child of 10 years to 65-year-old people are using social media. No doubt it brought a change & development in the society.

Hashtag

Hashtag

Hashtag: It’s a type of metadata tag used by Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc. It can be a word, a phrase, a letter or digit followed by ‘#’ pound sign.   Users use a hashtag to create an archive which contains all the contents of that particular field.

Content: Whatever you post, it can be a tweet, status, image or video is a content. The different platform runs with different content.

Share:  You create content, publish it and people will read but within your contact. That’s good but the reach is limited until your content is being shared. You have heard ‘Sharing is Caring’ that’s what happens when people share your content & you engage traffic.

Engagement: It can be a like, a comment, a share, an invite or a recommend which means people interact with your published content.

Facebook

Mark Zuckerburg & his fellow colleagues launched Facebook in February 2004 but only limited to Harvard University. Later, in 2006 it was launched worldwide.

It ruled over other social media platforms and it’s the world’s biggest social media platform.

There are approximate 2.27 billion monthly active Facebook users & on top of that 1.4 billion daily active users. It’s huge!

Facebook gives you the freedom to reach the depth of the audience which means you can target your ideal customer.

The app dominated and growth was enormous.

Twitter

Twitter was launched in 2006. The bluebird icon allowed users to write within 140 characters.

It started in The USA, say as a piece of online news & social networking tool where people used to interact with messages & post known as ‘tweet‘.

In 2012 Twitter gained popularity worldwide. It allows you to like, tweet & retweet tweets.

Twitter has more than 340 million active users worldwide, moreover, the microblogging platform allows you to tweet in 280 characters on your public or private feed.

It became one of the biggest debate happening platform. Twitter has emerged as one of the biggest platforms for celebrities, politicians, sportsmen to connect with the audience in real time.

 

Google+

Google+ came into existence in 2011 which basically replaced Google Buzz.

Some say Google+ was Google’s counterattack to Facebook.

In a short span of 7 years, it managed to reach approximately 395 million daily users & around 2 billion registered user.

However, Google+ could not manage to get user engagement as compared to other social media platforms which led to a transformation in the user interface. Later on, Google+ came with a new user interface.

Google+ allows you to post pictures, videos, links and also an option of event & polls.

 

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is one of the oldest professional social networking platforms. It was launched in 2003.

Being the oldest social media platform LinkedIn has approximately 200 million are monthly active users. Above all, 590 million registered users.

LinkedIn is majorly a business platform. It’s all about being professional. You can upload your resume for companies to shortlist or post a job, run your own advertisement.

If you have a B2B business, you are at the best place for your advertisements.

 

Pinterest

Pinterest entered in 2010.

In its 8 years of a span, Pinterest reached around 250 million monthly active users. You will be amazed to know that approximately 82% of monthly users are female.

Pinterest is all about Pins & Boards. You can upload, save & sort images known as pins. Boards are a collection of pins or content say pictures or videos.

It is one of the best social media platforms if your target audience is majorly women.

Pinterest doesn’t make you great money however, the quality of lead you get is high-quality.

 

Quora

We all are familiar with Question & Answers but it lasted to school & college.

Quora was developed by two former Facebook employees in 2009 and launched in 2010.

Quora is the Question & Answer platform on the internet wherein the user asks questions and users in the community can answer them. A user can Upvote the answer to ensure the best answer lists on top.

Approximately 200 million users joined Quora.  Users share their blog, website and work to drive traffic. But only the quality answers rank or say lists on top.

 

Reddit

Reddit is a web discussion platform. It allows users to submit contents such as articles, links, images which are then reviewed by other users & voted up and down.

The articles are listed by subjects or say topic like music, politics, movies, games, books, technology etc.

Since 2005, It has approximately 545 million active monthly users out of which somewhere around 300 million users are from The United States.

You can use Reddit to increase brand awareness.

Reddit has two such an amazing feature known as AMA’s (Ask Me Anything) & the voting feature. Users can upvote & downvote links & comment.

 

Tumblr

Tumblr is a microblogging platform founded in 2007.

It allows users to post multimedia & other content in form of a short blog hosting approximately 450 million blogs. It gives you a feature like a dashboard somehow similar to WordPress, queue, tags & HTML tagging.

Tumblr has more than 160 billion published posts and around 400 million blogs.
